Chavez offers Russia use of base

Venezuela’s President, Hugo Chavez, says he has offered Moscow the use of an airfield off its Caribbean coast for Russian strategic long-range bombers.
The comments came a day after a senior Russian air force general said it was considering Venezuela’s offer of a "whole island with an aerodrome".
Venezuelan military seizes ports
Venezuela’s military has taken control of key airports and sea ports under the terms of a move rubber-stamped by parliament a week ago.

The ports are a major source of
 income for state governments
President Hugo Chavez has pushed for the move, describing it as "reunifying the motherland, which was in pieces".
